Harrell-Mackenzie Quarter Horses :: Sales & Events
Harrell-Mackenzie Quarter Horses Auctioneer ~ CD Butch Booker Harrell-Mackenzie Quarter Horses A standout offering of first class, powerfully bred, performance prospect athletes headlined the 17th annual Harrell-Mackenzie Quarter Horse sale. Staged in conjunction with the annual Harrell Hereford Ranch production sale at ranch headquarters, Baker City, Ore., the event drew a "sellout" crowd from across the country that was at ringside and hooked up online and via DISH Network TV. The Harrell and Mackenzie families are well respected cattlemen and Quarter Horse breeders who make their living in the saddle as ranchers, horsemen and arena competitors. Established as two of the premier ranch and performance horse programs in the Northwest, they are anchored by bands of beautiful broodmares possessing quality, stature and the powerful genetics of the Pitzer Ranch, Neb.; the Weiscamp Skipper W's, Colo.; and the Cowan T4 Sun Frost horses, S. Dak. Their stallion battery is an outstanding lineup of stalwart sires backed by proven championship AQHA, NCHA, NRCHA and ProRodeo blood. They include Billy Red Baron (a son of AQHA Superhorse Mr Baron Red), Payin Doc (sired by World's Greatest Horseman Champion Paid By Chic) and RR Frenchmans Bully (a son of $8 Million Sire Frenchmans Guy sired by NFR sire Sun Frost). Progeny of these stallions are building a successful record as money earning champions in barrel futurities and youth, NIRA, USTRC and ProRodeo arenas across the region. These 2013 coming two-yr-old, prospect horses were expertly presented under saddle by trainers Joe Painter and Jason Smith in a performance preview at the Mackenzie Ranch arena. They were shown in riding routines and basic cattle and rope work to exhibit the level of progress made though their initial 60 days of "started" training. It was an impressive set of good looking, talented young geldings and fillies that displayed the size, bone, solid minds and great movement and finesse to become top ranch, futurity and rodeo arena horses. A fast paced sale saw ranchers, trainers and arena competitors bid to invest in the quality, talent and foundation training for which these programs are known. The quality of horses and prices paid continue to mark this event as one of the premier performance Quarter Horse prospect sales in the West.
